The workshop was massively helpful to me. Lorna’s style put everyone at easy and made the session relaxed and collaborative. I was a little apprehensive about the role-play but I actually found it really great - it highlighted to me the importance of rehearsing tricky conversations, which is not something I have done much before.
By far the biggest help to me was her framework for how to think about line management as a whole, and structure as a way to make sure you’re not dropping the ball and make crucial moments (i.e. perf review) easier.

One of my favourite tools shared at Lorna’s workshop is the framework for what constitutes a line manager’s role and responsibilities and what they need to manage effectively. Very often these things are intuited or figured out on the job and it was very validating and insightful to see them pulled into a framework that would easily set line managers up for success, even before an in-depth exploration of the various facets of the framework.
I and other workshop participants came with diverse management experiences and scenarios and Lorna shared valuable insights we could apply from her wealth of experience. Lorna’s insights also spurred good conversations between workshop participants, keeping the session interactive & engaging.
The specific line management scenarios Lorna explored as part of the workshop were also very useful as by exploring and reflecting on them, I could identify new insights from my own experiences and recognise key takeaways for effective line management. I recommend Lorna’s workshop as it was engaging, practical and very relevant for actual scenarios and challenges faced by line managers. It was also a great atmosphere and very enjoyable workshop, the time flew by too quickly! -

She demystified line management with incredibly clear worked examples, templates and her presentation. The workshop was focused and provided actionable steps to change things for the better. I would really recommend to anyone working in a midweight to senior role at a startup.
Given that usually almost no one has any line manager training it's an incredibly useful framework and approach to take into an organisation where most people are just kind of winging it re line management.
Her training gives tools to try and save the pain of misaligned expectations and well intentioned, but ineffective, communication that creates so many difficulties!

👋 Hello! I’m Lorna.
I’ve got over a decade of experience at the intersection of health, product, UX, and people management.
I’ve been a user researcher, manager and an executive leader - helping scale a startup from an idea to a Series B business with 98% market adoption and commercial success.
I’ve had the privilege of building and leading teams across User Research, Design, and Support, as well as taking on interim responsibilities managing leaders in Product, People, and Operations.
I’ve coached people across multiple fast-paced environments.
Throughout all of this, I learned most line managers (myself included) have had to just learn on the job. Understanding people, driving growth, appraising performance, making tough calls etc. - without ever having been taught practically how to do any of it. I’m planning to fix this 🙂.
